The Eagles have brought back Reno Mahe to be the team’s return specialist on kickoffs and punts. Mahe, a reserve running back for the Eagles from 2003 to 2006, led the NFL with an average punt return of 12.8 yards in 2005. During his career, he has returned 64 punts for the Eagles, averaging 9.4 yards per return. Mahe left the Eagles as a free agent this past offseason and was unable to find a new home. After sitting out the entire preseason, Mahe will have to work his way back into game shape. With the signing of Mahe, the Eagles released safety J.R. Reed. Reed muffed a punt with 58-seconds remaining in the fourth quarter while the game was tied, 13 – 13. The muffed punt lead to the eventual game winning field goal by Packers rookie kicker Mason Crosby. The Eagles are hoping Mahe’s ability to be a sure-handed catcher will be beneficial to them in the return game. |
